I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Violent Crime, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Officers investigating a serious assault in Basingstoke have arrested a fifth person in connection with the incident.
We were called at 9.32pm on Monday 7 September to a report that a man had been found with stab wounds on Normanton Road after he was assaulted on a footpath near Lyford Road.
The man, who is in his 50s, was taken to hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. He has since been discharged from hospital.
Officers have been investigating the circumstances of the incident, and this morning arrested a 14-year-old boy from Basingstoke on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody while our enquiries continue.
It comes after a 19-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, all from Basingstoke, and a 17-year-old boy from Newbury, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They have been bailed with conditions, to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.
Officers are appealing for witnesses as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
